Mount Auburn Cemetery | Cambridge, MA
Margaret Alan danced with the New York City Ballet durimg the 1950s.
The long-stem rose, which spans her birth and death dates, recall the flowers thrown onto the stage after a ballerina’s final bow. It is gently carved, echoing the softeness of a her many ballet performances.
For lettering, the copperplate epitaph above reflects the rhythm and grace of her movement. Look closely at the capital A and you’ll see a subtle ballerina twirling into the letter. The bold fat face lettering is based on the font used on a playbill that Alan was featured (right).
