Bow Wow Cemetery | Egremont, MA
This family name stone marks the entrance to a family plot. The Cliffs care deeply about nature and have long been devoted to conservation work in the Berkshires. For their emblem, they chose the black bear, abundant throughout the region.
Carved in high relief, the bear strides across rocky ground with one step forward. A tree bends into the circular composition behind it, while two smaller trees define the horizon line.
Look closely, and you will see the fine lines of fur, delicately scratched in with a needle. The family name is carved in crisp, commanding letters—large enough to be read from a distance.
