Mount Auburn Cemetery | Cambridge, MA

A slate plaque has been thoughtfully embedded into a large boulder, subtly tilted to align with the slope of the surrounding path. The slate’s natural cleft and earthy color were chosen to harmonize seamlessly with the rugged surface of the stone.

This memorial honors a young man who passed away while hiking. Though space was limited, I sought to reflect his love for the outdoors in a meaningful way. Carved rectangles symbolize trail blazes found on forest trees—one marking the beginning of a trail and the other its end—capturing the spirit of his adventurous journey through life.
